Dialysis
What it is
People on dialysis usually go to a center three times a week, or do dialysis at home with training and support. Assisted living, transportation and home care all have to fit around that schedule.
Dialysis centers are licensed in Utah as end stage renal disease facilities.
Good to know
- Medicare covers dialysis for people with permanent kidney failure, at any age, once they qualify.
- Many assisted living communities can support residents who go out for dialysis; ask about transportation.
- Home dialysis can make it easier to live in some care settings. Ask the kidney care team.
